Guest alice29
According to Nestle, Mrs. Wakefield (owner of the Toll House Inn) was making chocolate cookies but ran out of regular baker’s chocolate, so she substituted it with broken pieces of semi-sweet chocolate, thinking that it would melt and mix into the batter. It clearly did not, and the chocolate chip cookie was born. Wakefield sold the recipe to Nestle in exchange for a lifetime supply of chocolate chips (instead of patenting it and making billions!) Every bag of Nestle chocolate chips in North America has a variation of her original recipe printed on the back (margarine is now included both as a variant on butter and for those people who want to pretend it is healthy). Guest pjbabia
Wow, i never knew that... so there must be a history of every chocolate trademark by any major chocolate making companies like Hershey's, Toblerone and others. It would be interesting to know those facts..
Guest alice29
if only she was smart enough by not selling the recipe to nestle, she could have get more than lifetime supply of chocolate chips, and thats a lot of cash! Guest alice29
so when you talk of "chips ahoy" that's from where? because thats what a kind of chocolate chip i eat and its really delicious!
Guest pjbabia
Chips Ahoy are made by Nabisco and their head quarters is in Hanover, New Jersey, U.S. therefore their origin must be in US.. but that doesnt mean they are the one who made their chocolate. Who knows they just import the raw chocolate from somewhere else. Of course they wont tell us where they import their chocolates.
