Affiliate marketing is promoting other people’s products in exchange for a commission..

Affiliate marketing isn’t too complicated if you look at it from its basic premise:

  1. A company has a product or service
  2. A person partners with the company
  3. Sales generate income for both parties

It’s no different than recommending your favorite restaurant or a cool website. Except, if that person decides to visit and spend money then you get a kick-back (commission).

When you’re able to create an audience drawn by your passion for your niche or topic you’ll provide a helpful, referral service. Affiliating yourself with respectable brands provides a reward for your hard work and passion.

In my view, affiliate marketing is one of the best business models. However, it's not for everyone. I consider Amazon business the most lucrative option for now (personally, I tried many options). It's simple to manage it and if you don't want to spend time on business development, just buy a ready-made one. For example, find out more about it here.

Basically, and to explain it as shortly as I can, affiliate marketing works in a way that you have two sides - affiliate networks that are giving offers in some niches and that are working with both publishers and advertisers and they look for advertisers (affiliates) that will promote offers and links from publishers on their sites or some social media, but the most common choice is the site. Affiliates usually look for the mos suitable networks and join to them and if they establish cooperation they place offers and ads from publishers on their sites and if they manage to get clicks on that ads, or impressions (depend what counts) they receive comission for that and that's how they are making money. Affiliate networks can make their earnings by finding quality affiliates that will do the job and attract high amount of clicks, and affiliates make money from getting paid after some specific action is being performed on their site.

An affiliate network is a popular marketing tactic to drive sales and generate significant revenue online. It is extremely beneficial to both businesses and affiliate marketers. According to an industry review on affiliate marketing, affiliate networks are in a period of growth — with 7 in 10 advertisers stating that they intend to increase their affiliate marketing spend in the next few years.

In an affiliate network, an affiliate earns a commission for marketing another company’s or person’s products. Whenever an affiliate promotes a product, they earn a piece of the profit from each sale they make. The leads and sales are then tracked via affiliate links that lead the prospect from one website to another.

When someone clicks on an affiliate link, their browser is redirected to the merchant's site. If they make a purchase, the affiliate network tracking software records that transaction and then pays the affiliate a commission (generally a percentage of the sale or depending on their contract that's usually specialized using an app or a legal body).

Affiliate networks act as middlemen between merchants and affiliates. They provide tracking software and payment processing, as well as other services like fraud protection and customer service.

This removes much of the hassle for both merchants and affiliates, making it easier for them to find each other and do business together.

Just wanted to mention that I stumbled onto this site that offers really solid affiliate marketing articles. Also, I'd like to emphasize the importance of contracts. Make sure you understand all the terminologies before you sign anything. The most important bit is the actual commission you'll be getting per sale. With contracts becoming more complex (like smart contracts)–you have to be more keen when you get into any arrangement.
